Hello! I was wondering what you guys thought would be best for a large aquarium of this size? Should I get lots of canisters? A wet dry? or just a good sump? If you guys think a SUMP would be better could you ley me know whats (needed) to build one? I think I want to make a good one if thats the choice! Anyways all answers greatly appreciated. Thanks

wet/ dry/ sump is the best look at the diy you will learn much young lad:)

look at the DIY for the sump threads (there's plenty)

Is this tank glass or acrylic.
Is it drilled or not.
What are the LxWxH for it.
Is it an odd shape.
What kind of money are you looking to spend.
Are looks important or do you just want it to work.

these are all things that need anwsers first to get a good reply.

The fluval FX5 canister is not a bad choice either. Good bang for your buck. Eheim makes a canister for big tanks too, better than the FX5 in alot of ways, but its like twice the price. Lots of big tank guys on here use FX5's.

many do run canisters w/ w/d. i run a w/d at my shop but not at home. hob and canister and non-filtared at the house

FX5s are great mechanical filters. As for chem and bio they lack in that area.

But I would not filter a 300 gal with one yo would need at least two FX5s to filter 300gal.

Hell I have one a a 125 and when the fish grow more I plan on getting a second just for a 125.

FX5 or a sump if you have the $, time, and space for one.

i would use a w/d sump ......much easier to maintain and can handle a good bioload....using the right water circulation in the tank, the mechanical filtration is not too bad

I have a RenaX4 and a 50gl sump loaded with ceramic rings and bioballs to the top!!!!! I also have it on a 300 with no problems but keep in mind, I dont have my tank overstocked.
12"GATF, 10" Juruense, 10" Gold Wolf, 6" Sail Fin Pleco, 6" Ocell and a lot of current:naughty:

I use a 38g sump with a 1800gph pump and recently added an FX5 because I had a lot of large fish at one time and wanted a bit more filtration. My tank is spotless all the time levels are perfect i do water changes once every ten days - 2 weeks
