I've typically been a fan of doing the bucket blend(mixing brands) but I've since found I get the best color/breeding behavior by staggering my diet, not feeding the same thing day to day. One day I'll throw in a bunch of spirula pellets and shredded cocktail shrimp the next day I do a mix of cichlid attack sinkers and kens floaters. the next day I'll do wardly floaters and sinking shrimp pellets. I've found doing this seems to get my cichlids in a breeding frenzy. Atleast one day they get a load of whatever it is they like/need to breed. Last night it was spirula and cocktail shrimp and my red empress was in breeding colors trying to lure a gal onto his favorite spawning rock. I found my z-rock likes the kensfish/cichlid attack mix more. Just saying you should throw down 50 bucks on several different kinds of cichlid food and try something like that.

yeah i am sorry i know alot of people use a mixture of brands but lets vote on which is the main one you use as a staple and not a supplement , and keep posting the mixture of foods you use i like the idea of mixing alot in a bucket

I can't really vote because I feed nls and omega one color pellets along with freeze dried krill and fresh / frozen veggies. For a staple food my fish would vote nls they love it. I have a large male white convict that had pale blue eyes for a long time and after including the omega color pellets into his diet they have turned a purple color. I love both brands.

I use trout chow as well in the mix. Basically whenever I find large pellets I add them to the mix.

after all this time i thought people hated hikari

use to feed 60/40 pellets/live .. but found 60/40 live/pellets =d better results for my fish. Nightcrawlers being a majority of the "live" and by live I mean whole foods.. includeing frozen. For pellets I stick with NLS/Hikari/Omega one for flake.. ON's prime reef can't be beat.
