Best fittings for 55g drum

Are you sure it's black PVC and not Black ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)? Most hardware stores will have Black ABS pipe and white PVC. Black PVC is not as common, but it exists.

There is a lot of debate about whether or not ABS is fish safe. IMO, it is. Most standard bulkheads are made of ABS. So are Legos.

But to answer your question, the difference between black pvc and white pvc is color.*

*Although sometimes color can be used to differentiate the wall thickness of pipe. For example, schedule 80 PVC usually comes in a dark grey color, whereas schedule 40 PVC is usually white.

Yes, it should, but ABS is more commonly sold in 1.5" and larger. If you need to use smaller pipe (< 1.5"), PVC will be easier to find.

I have a bunch of 2" black pipe id rather use for better flow rate then 1.5"

yep, ABS has same outside dems. as PVC. uni-seals are awesome for curved surfaces. Widely used by the koi guys for DIY 55 gal poly drum filters. work great and butt loads cheaper than bulkheads

This is great to hear. I have unlimited supply of 55g drums and a good source of K1 kaldnes near by. I plan on just adding drums as i need them. Ive decided to run everything i own larger then a 55g off this filter. My plan is several pumps split off with manifolds to throttle each tank accordingly. Were talking 10+ tanks now and eventually 30-40+ im excited to only have to maintain 1 main filter.

"Uni-seals" far superior to bulkheads on round surfaces and where bulkheads dont fit. Just look up "uni-seal" on google. They are alao sold at aquatic eco.

Uniseals are significantly cheaper at Allied Aqua (www.alliedaqua.com).
