Flake food tend to lack in nutrition. Once it soaks in water, it starts to release its nutrition right away in the water. Plus they are very messy if they don't get eaten. :)

Amen

for my flowerhorn i use A-Life and XO Humpy head. the cost is about the same as the hikari cichlid gold. and to be honest it has shown progress over few months or so. to be honest it doesnt really matter what you feed it but there are food specialized for flowerhorns that will help improve the color size, etc. but downfall is it all comes down to genetics. if the parents have big head and bright color, chances are most of the flowerhorn fries will have that trait. and specialized food only helps to give it a little boost.

Not with only a couple of juvies, and most certainly not with hybrids such as FH. Way too many genetic variables at play when it comes to hybrids.
