This tank was originally supposed to be a sump for a wet/dry recirculating system. Once I saw it full of water I couldnt resist filling it with rocks and backup broodstock. Now there is at least forty fish ranging from an 9" S. Petricola to Jacobfreibergi fry.

I normally change out about 60 l of water on this tank a week so I tought that if I could absorb nitrates that I could reduce this somewhat.

Apart from fish grazing the roots, my biggest concern is my ever curious cat, Wanker. I wonder how long the egg crate can hold him out of the water.

Potts, you named your cat Wanker? And I am stuck with Fluffy.

Do the people at the vet refuse to call your cats name out in the waiting room?

I guess it is a good idea to have a backup name for Wanker  Especially when the parson comes over :D

Nice setup, plants are staying green. Maybe fish will eat any dieing roots and keep the statusquo.

GFI!? There is no adventure in your soul...:naughty:

Try telling someone down here that your girlfriend kicked your wanker and see what kind of looks you get...

In all seriuosness though, what a differance a couple of days can make. No water changes. Make up of less than a litre only. The images show the titration test for nitrate. Not very acurate but I think you can see the differance and the trend in the right direction. Nothing happening on the big tank yet.
