Best lighting to accent my Dovii.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Those are good comparison pics Bderick67. The top 2 pics are exactly what I mean. You have brought out the real colors in the fish and everything else for that matter without creating any blue tint to the water. Good example.:)

I use the powerglos on all my tanks.I find it the best broad range bulb there is for complementing all colors in freshwater tanks..

It's too bad hagan don't make the powerglo in a pc lamp. I was hoping for the same effect with the Coralife Colormax, but did not get the same results:(

Ya it may also be the processor on his point and shoot camera. I don't have any experience lighting a male dovii with the powerglos, but I do know what they did with my black aro.

All the same aro and the same camera. So as you can see the lighting will make a difference.

It really makes a huge difference. Thanks for the nice aro photos but I still the the Dovii pics by Rec glow a bit too much. Sorry, just my opinion...:(. Maybe it's my monitor?

no, anybody that remembers REC knows why he was banned. I wouldn't put it past him to photo shop his pics to make *His* Dovii the best... It's how he was. Total D-bag.

Either way, he had a big healthy Dovii and those "glowing" colors were in *EVERY SINGLE* picture of his. So they were all photo shopped, or he has one of the best Dovii in the world.

Photoshop or not, it still is a nice looking fish.

id love to see the hagen Power glow thread when it's up... id love to see some comparison shots.

Hey Rakie, good to see you coming back around. I agree, PS'd or not, it's an awesome Dovii. Maybe REC did have a super mega dollar bad-A lighting system that made the fins glow in the dark. I don't know but it looks unreal.

Looking at those pics again, could he be using black lights?

Possible. But I have a lot of experience with reef lighting... Certain kelvin temps really, really bring out colors..

Actinic lighting is where you get your colors from, the standard actinic light is 440-460 nm, that will get you some nice strong colors. But 400-420 nm will give you fluorescent colors, that make things "glow" in an un-natural way.

Reefers love them because just a little 400-420 bulb will make the average tank look *amazing*. But if you use too much, it looks fake and Neon.

And it DOES work (to a degree) on fish... All the lighting he has in that tank is actinic, id bet it is for sure helping the colors, but I would also think he does photoshop to bring out even more colors.

I use four of the Coralife mini-compacts on my 300.Each one uses a 9W white and actinic bulb.I've also had good results with the Coralife 50/50 bulbs with my Frontosa. These two pics are with the Coralife minis.

i have seen REC's dovii in person a few times, and i must say that it is truely that color. it was the most fascanating fish i have ever seen, no tricks up his sleeve. in fact i was severely dissapointed when i bought my first dovii after seeing his.

take it as you will, i have no reason to lie nor do i want to start an arguement.

No, that wouldn't make me start an argument. Having an eye witness goes a long way for his case. Thanks for the post. Do you know what he was using for his lighting?
