Close, I doubt many here will know this one but the all time greatest is, was and always will be Ritchy Blackmore's solo on Deep Purple's Child in Time. One of the all time greastest. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Also Ian Gillan's vocals are amazing as he hit a high C in a song from the classic era of rock-n-roll.......

oh yeah man kick ass song! gotta love the classics pretty much anything from ac/dc the doors ect too but thats drifting into classic rock but all still amazing stuff

Master of Puppets...Metallica

Poison Was The Cure...Megadeth

The Great Southern Trendkill...Pantera

Haha yeah but that's all I know the stuff you're talking about was after my time and not nearly as good. Damn I saw some of the greats in concert Zepplin, Tull, ELP, Uriah Heep, Country Joe, The Airaplaine, Stones I used to go to MSG almost every weekend. It was a great time to grow up from what I'm told.........;)........Oh yeah!

OK sorry the old dinosaur'll butt out now.

sweating bullets
cat scratch
man in the box
any jimmy
Cashmere
got the life...
sabbath...
the most rudimentary song ever. But You got to pay homage:

There is a lot of monumental riffs out there. I cant pick one over the other/

Tommy Iommi was always undreated IMO. Black Sabboth was great in concert. I went to see Sabboth at the Felt Forum in 1972. NIB!

Not a big metal fan, but the opening riff of Mouth For War by Pantera gets me every time, the way Dimes guitar and Vinnies drumming are so tight is awesome...

actually as far as straight out riffs-driven rock go, Pantera were awesome, walk, cowboys from hell, I'm broken, just about every one of their songs...
