Best quiet filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there brand new, bought 2 of them a year or so ago when they were under $40 each,
Put them in the closet and left the hobby, now I'm back. Just set them up a week ago. There loud !

Not sure why there so loud. Guess there made cheap these days.

I have my tank full and can hear water running 3 rooms down from the tank.

I don't remember my old one being so loud but thats back when I had carpet on the floor and a canopy on my tank.

and another thing, if I crank them up to full they make a clanking noise, so I had to turn them down.

Check to see if their level, that was my problem once. Also for some reason my AC110 loves to be loud initially and quiet down later no matter how well I clean it. As far as quiet though I have an fx5 too, and I can't hear the thing so I look for current.

My Eheim 2217 is silent to me since I also run a Maxi-Jet 1200 with the venturi on the tank but the Eheim 2217 is much louder than my Aquaclears (50 and 500/110). The Aquaclears are dead silent, if you can hear them then the Eheim 2217 is not for you. My Rena xP3 makes more noise than the Aquaclears also but less than the Eheim.

I'm an Eheim and AC fan. In fact... I have a small tank in my office sitting 4 feet beside me running two AC-50's and I can barely hear it.

Most canisters are quiet. HOB's if they are not level, or have air pockets, might vibrate against the tank/cords...
But the wet dry, if you get the DURSO type overflows and set it up correctly will give you the best filtration for ease of maintenance and noise etc...

cant speak for any of those but an Eheim 2217 is a truly silent filter if i didnt see water coming out of my spraybar I wouldnt know its on
same here

I run an FX5 and 404 on my 200 gallon. I don't hear them at all. I have more noise coming from my powerheads aerator. The FX5 would be a great purchase!
