Best Rubber Coating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, silicon sticks to it just fine... but even better.. with this stuff you don't need silicon. They also have a glass/acrylic primer to make their product stick straight to the window. This is how i did my tank and its awesome! If there is ever a leak, you wouldn't have to strip down the entire window like you would with silicon... plus it sticks better than silicon.

I read another thread somewhere here that someone said they tested Sanitred and wasn't impressed with its adhesion.. its adhesion strength won't be at 100% until after 13 days of curing... though you can walk on it and fill a tank after only an hour of curing. I doubt they waited the 13 days. I did a test on a piece of acrylic scrap.. I didn't even pre-scuff the plastic and it was way harder than silicon to remove.

To me, this is a HUGE advantage over anything else out there.

Thanks again for the reply

Looks like it will be defiantly worth my time looking to

Gotta compare the price eft to zavala and the other rubbers

How large is the aquarium that you used this material with

If I do liquid rubber I'm gonna be spending double or triple the amount required as I want to sleep at night lol. Get as many coats as I want lol

Spiff 44. Do u think this product could be used with a tank build like the 2600 gallon here on the main DIY tank forum ?

Absolutely! My tank is 5ft deep and it handles it fine. The folks at Sanitred said they know of public tanks over 50ft deep where there are underwater seams and it holds up fine.

Here is a picture where you can see the interior Sanitred bond to the window...(the silicon you see on the outside of the window was a failed silicon/pond armor debacle attempt)

My tank is at 1700 gallons in its current configuration.

Ok yea! I'll be looking into this!
Maybe u wouldn't care for a few private messages from me on sanitred ?

I asked about your tank and unjust now see you have a link lol :)

I'm happy to help with any questions you have.

If there is any complaint about Sanitred, it would be their instructions which are confusing because they tried to cram too much info into as least amount of space as possible and its a mess because of it.

But the product is very simple to use- though you couldn't tell by the instructions.

Take a look at Tritoflex as well. From the prices I see online for the Sanitred products, Tritoflex will be WAY cheaper for the same result. And its just as safe and easy to work with. Silicone adheres to Tritoflex very well or you could just use the trowel grade at full viscosity like caulk as it bonds to glass or acrylic well. The website is geared towards roofing but the applications are very broad being an eco friendly water based liquid rubber polymer product. You don't need the spray equipment for an application like this. I am one of the formulators for this company and can answer any questions you might have, I can even make "special" viscosity Tritotrowel batches for you to make this application easy. If you can use a paint brush, you can use this product.

Ok I'll check it out as well!

I'd like to have a 4 foot tall viewing window. I'm not sure on how thick of acrylic I'd need to go for this

I just trying to save money
The 1800 gallon fiberglass tank from dolphin fiberglass would cost me around 10,500 including the shipping. Kinda steep when I could do a plywood build.

Can u put tliquid rubber on with a roller instead of a brush?

I like the structural part of black tips build! The 4x4 wrap around a. I think this is a good way to support the pressure

Oh I know them. I bought my 240 glass aquarium there about 9 years ago!!!

I live in Paragould Arkansas. We drove there to pick it up .

How thick is your window.

It might save a lot of money to go with 3 feet tall instead of 4. A lot of people here don't recommend going over 3 feet tall. Tho blacktip did
