Best setup to get maximum color out of atf

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dark substrate and only moderate lighting. You have light sand with bright lights. That will wash out their colors.

Also, as others have said, the stress of the transfer definitely isn't helping.

I would give them a couple more months as is and see if their color comes in naturally with a high quality food and settling in.

No reason to completely change your substrate unless you're sure they aren't coloring up because of the light sand. They look fairly small still, they will color up quite a bit as they get larger.

Well they are so small right now, if I was you I would just focus on growing them up a bit larger. As they grow you will see the transformation. Hydrocynus are timid characins when small, they stress out SUPER easy. Just keep them from perishing and time, good water, comfortable surroundings, consistent feeding and they will color up perfectly fine. Just be patient, you are already on the right track and your setup is just fine, the contrast of light substrate and dark background is always a winner. Too dark or light and your fish becomes more skittish. Good luck

Thank you the only reason I started this thread is cause I saw a picture of when I first got them and their color was all there there'd in the fins and the black stripes and stuff and now I look at them and they are just silver

Dark substrate and dimmer lighting. Trust me.

The white sand will make them lighter. Fish can change their color and yours are bleaching their color to try to blend with the sand.
