it's a lot easier to give advise if you give a bit more details about the tank and what you are looking for. Size of tank, tankmates or species tank, what are your water parameters (PH, KH),..........

Agree with Reiner, tank size, and tap water parameters.
If your water is soft, the dwarf South Americans mentioned above might work. if hard rift Lake Africans, or small Central Americans like Amatitlania nanoluteus would work.

If neutral and you don't want to use a heater, some of the Uruguayan Gymnogeophagus might work.
