Growth rate averages about 1" per month, up to 10" or so, then slows down. You can maximize growth rate by feeding several small meals a day, increasing the tank temperature to low 80s, and keeping the water quality excellent.

got a midevil ... what's the growth rate for these guys? their around 3inches now how long will it take for them to get to 7+ ?

Probably about 3-4 months.

i find amphilophus fish so bonding with their owners and aggro to the other fish.most other fish are either aggro or social

yeah. no the are not aggressive tho. mine bit me and i have 10 fingers. they mostly eat vedgies.
I would would classify as Characin, not a cichlid.

No worries. They are AWESOME in a pond if you live in a warm enough year round climate.
