I vote Trimac--they're beautiful and very powerful--would be good alone.

Could 2 male flowerhorns with enough hiding places work in a 125 gallon?

Very, very little chance of that working.

Which is why they are best left in the wild.....

Why, your thinking is that in the wild full grown pacu school? By ratio the pacu that are kept is that public aquarium have a bigger tank then anything that you keep in an aquarium.

No, just that my thinking is that they dont make good aquariums specimens wether it be private or public. I have kept them, and I regret doing so. And you're right, any aquariums that we have are a fraction of what fish live in the wild. 6 cories in a 5000 gallon tank is still smaller than the capacity of a river a wild fish lives in. I get that. I just don't think pacus are smart choices for a captive species. Like I said, this is just my personal opinion, and it is also my opinion that I made a mistake trying to house them. If you're opinion is otherwise than so be it. I can respect your opinion, but I still think there are much prettier and more manageable species to keep. I would just hope that people give me the same respect. Like I said...... it is my opinion. Nothing more

Sorry for the derail folks......

I am right about what? Where did I compare an aquarium to what fish have in the wild?

What I would like to understand is how you believe it is OK to keep the fish you keep. Yet in a public tank that is 60' long 12' wide and 8' deep a 3 foot pacu should not be kept. By ratio thats better then keeping a 6" fish in a 180g (6x2x2') tank.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. :screwy: Why are you even on monsterfishkeepers if you don't think monster fish should be kept?

Sure they'll fit, but do you really think it's fair to the fish? IMO this is a species that is best left in the wild. Agree do disagree. And yes, I am one if those people who made the mistake of buying 6 without researching the fish( pre- Internet) and keeping them in a 180 gallon. I was lucky enough to be able to relocate them to a large pond once they reached about 12".

I'm not saying it CAN'T be done. I'm saying that it shouldn't. Just my opinion of course.
I think it is just as fair as keeping neons in a 20g... I really don't see your point at all.

While derailing yet another thread with your off topic opinion, it seems (in your own mind) that you know everything to know and are the only one with correct answers on a very subjective topic.

There are very few people on here with 8x3x3 tanks (still not big enough for a healthy full grown pacu IMO)...and Id be willing to bet that on a forum of over 82,000 members that less than 100 have a tank that size...thats about .12%. So thats not a very likely scenario.

And just because you havent caught any that big (in KY?) doesnt mean jack. I catch hammerhead sharks yearly but never caught one over 8 ft...doesnt mean they dont exist, does it?

Pacus grow TOO big for 99% of aquariums people can realistically keep....
Wow... If you think I am the one who derailed this thread, then you need to go back and read through it a couple more times and keep your mouth shut until you have. I didn't make a single derailing post until AFTER it had already been derailed and AFTER the thread had already served its purpose. And don't give me any crap about thinking I know everything. You obviously believe you know plenty more than I do, which just makes you a hypocrite.

And just because you havent caught any that big (in KY?) doesnt mean jack. I catch hammerhead sharks yearly but never caught one over 8 ft...doesnt mean they dont exist, does it?
What does that have to do with anything? Now you are just further derailing an already derailed thread. I was not referring to anything I've caught personally, I was referrring to what has actually been recorded as maximum sizes. What are you basing your information on?

and Id be willing to bet that on a forum of over 82,000 members that less than 100 have a tank that size...thats about .12%. So thats not a very likely scenario.
What difference does that make? It was stated that NO TANK is suitable for a pacu. If <100 tanks exist that ARE suitable, then you are proving my point. :wall:

Oh and just btw, thank you for turning this into a flame war, VRWC (although I'm sure that is somehow my fault as well in YOUR mind).
