Best "Solo" cichlid?

i know oscars are very smart and they know their owners but if i'm gonna get a solo fish why not get a really aggressive one

Not enough hiding places for the female that the male can't get into, too small of a tank ect. With mine a piece of driftwood fell or was moved in front of the cave she used to retreat into without her hiding place it was all over.
Even the biggest tanks are a drop of water compaired to the lakes these fish evolved in.
Even with all the large SA/CA cichlids I've owned, the most personable cichlid I've had was actually an African. My paratilapia polleni was very interactive and playful. Alot will also depend on how the fish are kept and raised. My male RD for example will have nothing to do with me when it's kept in a large community tank, put it into a smaller tank by itself and it becomes quite the glass banger. Same goes with two male trimacs I currently am raising. The one in a community just is looking for food, while the one by itself is more interactive.

I voted midas, but I'd also consider trimac or beani.
Tilapia Butterkolferi-Know I mangled that name. They get big. Are super hardy and very smart. Midas are a good move. Can always place a female in later. Just take a trip down to Home Depot buy some egg crate and cut it down to the tanks hight and width. Use it as a divider if you have to. I hate to say this, not a fan of hybrids but Flowerhorns are tailor made for single fish aquariums. Same goes for Black Piranha.

Large Red Devils live up to their name. If you want a fish that is truly psycho, they are the ticket. I have one that is about 11" and it hates EVERYTHING including me. It tries vigorously to attack me through the glass anytime I get near it. I tried putting it in with a bully 15" or so Orino pbass, and within an hour the Orino didnt want anything to do with him. They dont back down from a fight and all the gill flaring, posturing and bluffing that most fish do is met with a ferocious and relentless attack. It cant even stand large snails. If it moves it wants to kill it.
