ok so a F8 is better? i am wanting it to go in a brackish tank so the hairy isnt really an option neither is the fahaka, congo, dwarf, or mbu(whatever that stands for???).

Again, its not so much which puffer is better, just which one is better / best for you...
So heres a quick run down of the ones you listed:
F8 you'll need low brackish (SG = 1.005 - 1.008) and about 15-20 Gallons per puffer
Now as for the rest they are all freshwater species with different tank size requirements and personalities...
Hairy (semi lurker / luker) - 30G for singleton
Fahaka (active and large)- MIN. 125G + for a singleton
Congo (luker) - 30G for a singleton
Dwarf (active and very small) - you could keep up to 3 in a 15G
MBU (active but huge) - You'll need at least 800G + tank... so not exactly a starter puffer by any means...
So again it really depends on what sort of tank you want to setup, and which puffer YOU personally like the look of most... coz i've met plenty of people buy puffers such a Palembangs to later get rid of them coz they don't do anything...
