Best Tank Size for Arowanas, (SILVERS)

The most important thing besides the size of the tank is filtration, and maintaining excellent water quality.

i dont want to be combative but the question is what is the best tank size for a silver arowana. So if you say 270 gallon( which is a good size ), of course a 300 gallon would be even better. To make a long story short , for a massive fish , bigger will always be better.

depends on the demensions of the 300 gallon. I know of 2 different, one is 96" long x 24" deep x 31" high which is only gonna be good for an aro around 24". The other is 96" long x 30" depth and 25" high this would work for an aro around 30". The 270 gallon proposed is 36" depth which is good for the aro around 3 feet. Although I think the length of this is way to short for a 3 footer.

My plan is to go with the footprint of the 300 gallon 96" x 30" but I am looking into getting one that is at least 30" high also, which would be about 370 gallons.:headbang2

cmon man. why derail this thread. i have a 60gal, 100gal, 150gal, 400gal. it doesn't matter what size tank any of my fish start in, either way there gonna live happy.

can you see me puttin ga 2" rtc in a 150gal tank with 2ft silvers n gars? be real

Ya I kinda missed that part, Sorry man I just kinda took I wrong cause I got my guy still in the 75g. Trying to get the stand refurbished on the 120g I got. Of course then I'll only be good for another couple of months.

How big is he? I have plans for a 10' x 4' x 3' tank in the basement for if mine ever his that 3 foot mark. But you think the pond ya got is too small? Why?

he is 24" right now... I look at it from thethe point of view on if I were to be kept in a cell for the rest of my life how much room would I need to be comfy... And I believe that especially a fish that almost never stops swimming needs alot of room to swim.. and if you have ever seen an animal at the zoo that has been "institutionalized" meaning all it does is the same repetetive motions all day... I believe that is sad so I do not wish that on my animals
 
Thanks for the quick replies and such, I am pricing a custom tank on Glasscages, 72,30,17, I only want to keep 1 Silver and maybe an eel or a knife, Mainly for the Aro and yes I have heard bigger is better close to a billion times, actually around 1,783,875 times in reality, LOL
I have kept a silver before, in a, (shudder, sorry, i was ten) 33 gal long(:cry: ) before and now that I have gotten older,( and a lot wiser) I feel I can truly handle the responsibility of caring for an aro, I am 19 now btw. I was thinking in the 125-240 range to start out and then move him or her, (havent decided yet), up to a custom built 500, eventually.:headbang2

I agree, the aro will mainly stay in the top 1/3 of the tank. If you don't have enough depth though your aquascaping will get into his swinning area, which equals less space for your aro.
