go deeper then 17" go atleast 24" it is better while aros are topwater fish they appreciate the depth

Yeah, I agree. My aro tank is 31" deep, and my silver will swim to the bottom, and all over. They won't stay on top exclusively.

U can keep one in a 120 for abour 4-5 years. Then much bigger.
I kept one in a 75 for 2 years then a 120 for 3 more then moved him to a 450.!!!!!!

Wow, ya know I don't disagree with having an aro in a 75g but for 2 years, how big was he at that point? and then a 120 gallon for 3 more:screwy:

the biggest I would allow an aro to get in a standard 75 would be 16". the 120 gallons have a depth of 18" so moving to it buys you only a couple more inches.

For minimum tank size, I still say length of tank at least 3x the fish and depth and hieght need be equal the aro. This is only a guide and since aros can grow 1-3" a month, ya better be ready with the new tank.

Wow! My aro grew to about 12" in a 75gal. before I moved him. At 12" he looked cramped and I felt bad for him. (I had to remove some large pbass before I could put him in the big tank.) I can't imagine stuffing a aro into a 75gal. for 2 years. Damn!

I priced a 72x30x17 on glasscages.com, $600, I think I might be going with that, I AM NOT COMPLETELY SURE, though. I WILL NOT HAVE ANY TALL AQUASCAPING JUST NATIVE AMAZONIAN BASIN PLANTS AND ROCKS/WOOD.

and yes I know, take one and mellow out, LOL, :chillpill: :screwy:

I HAVE DOVE INTO THIS HOBBY COMPLETELY, I AM GETTING BETWEEN 375 TO 500 GALLON TANK FOR MY SILVERS, :headbang2 , it has taken me five years of begging and bi+ching to my parents to let me get it. Now that i have my aquaculture certification they think I am able to take care of it now, lol, I could have handled it five years ago:ROFL:
Anyway just wanted to share that little tidbit with you guys

This is a friggin newb question, but I dont care, lol

I am in need of assistance on this matter

What is the best tank size for a silver aro

And please dont tell me bigger is better

Because I am well aware of that statement lol

ANY input would be appreciated

And yes I am :screwy:

LOL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN START YOUR FLAMETHROWERS
.

I would think the BEST size would be that which equals it's natural habitat or getting there:) So since your question was a little vague :) I am going to say about 10,000,000 gallons :D

My black is currently in a 250 and I am upgrading somewhere in the next 2 years ferom my L83-H2.5-W2 to a minimum of 96-3-2 :) But shooting for 120-3-2.5 If we build the room we are talking about we will be shooting for
120-4-2.5 :D But there is no telling what I will actually have just know it will be at least wider than what I have now as I have Cichla too :)

This comming from a kid who built a tank just for his arowanas.

Keep in mind that the silver and black arowana ( not so much sure about the black ) can get up to 4ft in the wild. In most home aqariums they will only grow to around 2 ft and if given the proper care 3 ft. I would say anything around 3ft wide and 6-7ft long would be good.

also keep in mind an arowana will grow anywhere from 1-3" a month if they eat properly and once they hit 18" they slow down.

they can very much reach 4ft in captivity
