best way to do solid black background?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh and one more thing, they have rolls of black shelf liner (a more rubbery type) that I've thought about trying as well. Think its like $5 for about 9 feet..

Black poster board. It took 3 sheets to do my 125, and it was incredibly easy. Mock it up to the front and overlap the side pieces, tape it together, and put it on the back.

Cool thanks everyone, definatly some cool ideas to check out. Ill keep them in mind when I do the next walmart run for baby formula. I always thought standard aquarium baxkgrounds were a pita to stick on, cuz of the liqued gluey stuff + air bubbles.

I know you said no paint, but trust me:

Flat black latex paint is not only the best looking, but its also easier to remove than a taped on back. You could easily remove a latex paint from a the back of a 55 gallon aquarium in under a minute, with no sticky tape residue to remove.

Well I do like the idea of bed sheets, cheap and for onepaxk I can xover all my tanks. With the bristol board it would probably leave a small seam where the paper joins together (not a big deal, but im kind of a "perfectionist" so knowing it there would bug me), the vinyl shelving idea might work if I can maybe find a roll long and tall enough. Being the weekend tomorrow I will do a walmart run with a list of everything you have all suggested and take it from there. Im writi g everything down in a lil pocket book for my next upgraded tank so I dont forget anything I need for the upgrade.

I like putting velcro squares on the backs of my tanks and then using felt to stick to it. Similar to the sheet suggestion but I think that felt would stick to the velcro a little better. Either way the fabric looks great and is easy to change out to a different color if you want something different.

Krylon Fusion whatever color on all my tanks some three sides...If water gets spilled behind doesnt matter it just drys its on the outside of paint used diffent paint fusion the best going on due to the tip and adhesion. if curtain or backdrop gets wet it may be noticiable or traditional backgrounds if water gets in between it noticiceable like water spots PAINT FTW....faded

I've used felt backdrops and they hold up quite well when drenched.

I've been using the cheapest $0.96 flat black from wal-mart on more permanent tanks and it works just as well as Fushion. Anything going inside the tank gets Fushion though.
