Best way to grow out juvenile Blue Umbees.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thought fish liked variety from time , i wouldnt want to eat steak every day, variety is healthy and not boring for them, i know bloodworms are not alot of protein but meat eaters enjoy it. personally i rather see grow healthy ,than too fast.

Your fish must talk to you more than mine talk to me. Bloodworms have little nutrient content no matter how much fish enjoy it.

just got to switch up from time to time, thats it, mines r 2 to 6inches now , just bough da smaller ones but together as a whole young so the flake n da day veggie says 52% brine shrimp flake 58.5 and earthworm flake 48 but contains fish pheromone to help breed/sexual performance , feed them that rarly, but earthworms cut in half or precooked shrimp . there young food high protein ,n a lil veggies too. crickets some days . for instance i have red tiger mota too went with out eating for a couple days 4 to 5 through crickets and earthworms in for his first time . live , brought his appetite straight back he like to kill or prey on his food somtimes just like jags dovi n freddys of course da fam paraCHR ,so i throw curve balls sometimes or dodont throw at all. but i keep focus when i can on me instead of them fighting or being depressed or not eating anything for less stress

I've had luck raising mine with massivore and frozen krill when at under 3" and then switch to NLS spectrum from there on. Once in a while I mix in some ken's color pellets just for kicks but doubt it even makes a difference :) I keep my tanks with natural color gravel and it's apparently working great for me, colors- can't complain.

Too much protein and fat is not good for your fish at bigger sizes, including umbees so be careful. As far as adding other species, it's your choice honestly, but I highly doubt it actually makes a difference in terms of higher or lesser aggression levels. I currently have a group growing mixed in with festae, istlanum, gorillus, and RTMs and I'm yet to notice any real differences. GL buddy.

For me honestly I've fed bloodworms to my fish for years, obviously not as a staple but I have yielded tons of beautiful fish. Good or not I don't care what food train people are on these days! It will not affect me or what I feed my fish. Call me stubborn but I will continue to use what works and has worked for me for the last several years. I am open to try new things like I have tried southern delight as well. No complaints with it, I will add powerfeed and growth formula to what I'm already feeding. And honestly I don't give two craps about the brand name battle. Yes diet does play a part in the potential of your fish but I've had so much success with so many different foods that as long as your feeding your fish something from any of the competitors you will he fine. Everyone has their own way of raising fish, so your best bet is to try a little of everyone's advice and see what works best for you:) or find out who you think has the nicest fish/ umbees or whatever and send them a message asking what they do. That will definitely keep the confusion down lol

Thanks for everyones input and advice! I will drop the beefheart, keep feeding them nls pellets and some omega one flakes and some other things here and there. Here is a video of them in my 125. I will be adding darker gravel that i have shortly.

Beef heart offers no nutritional benefit to them. Stop feeding that.

You're funny, Jason. You state that beefheart has no nutritional benefit to these fish in one breath, and in the next breath you state that you are going to feed a food that contains protein derived from poultry.

Do you not see the irony in that?

Beefheart does indeed offer nutrients, that isn't the problem, the problem is the amino acid ratio, and the inclusion of animal lipids. Same problem faced with poultry meal. No one can say that discus breeders can't get great growth by feeding beefheart mixes, the problem is those large gains in growth via animal products (and by-products) come at a cost to the fish in overall stability and long term health.

Success is obviously measured differently, by different people.

I've found, that for me, the best way to get adult sized fish fast; is to buy fish that are already at the 6-7" range..... Haha, I know this doesn't help your situation.

But I also have a 125 where i'm growing out some umbee ( 1 rio mag, 2 gorillus black, 5 gorillus blue, and 2 mag x). They average from 2-3 inches, and the way I keep aggression down is lower temps (which also slows the growth rate), and by the addition of a 6+" Krausii. He is very mellow, but all of the fish know that he's in charge...... I also feed them a mix of different pellets and some frozen krill from time to time. BTW, this is the same mixture of foods I feed my adult rio mag pair who are currently wrangling about 150 fry....

good luck with your changes

I'm only feeding the powerfeed till it's gone. There isn't much left. I have fed beef heart but have stopped long time ago. I can see the irony yes but also please tell me how many hobbiest actually keep fish for full life terms? The entire diet debate is too overdone and exhausting.
