Actually from what I have found very few die after the fight, many are culled though.

LOL

Oh, the reason there are so many survivors of betta fights, at least professionally run ones, is that the fish are seperated as soon as there is a clear winner, even losers in the prize blood lines can be worth several hundred dollars as breeders.

THAT MAKES VERY GOOD SENSE

i was told they train them by getting a tall peace of clear pipe , then fill it part way with water and put food on the bottom then slowly raise the water level so the betta learns to hold its breath

Why can't we all just get along.

Fighting Bettas is a bad idea, thats just my opion.

Ok we have people from all different countries on here so while I don't neccessarily condone fighting fish now I did fight them (not to the death as a teen before I knew better.Let's be honest there are always going to be someone that doesn't agree. I mean some people don't agree that animals are kept in captivity son frown on all of us.My question though is why keep fish that kill given the oppurtunity if you can't face the fact they can & will kil given the chance. Bettas don't normaly kill each other unless they have no space to retreat. I had male bettas live together fine in a well planted 20 long with some swordtails & platies. Honstly my 1st betta Crawford used to always fight with 3 paridise fish in the tank. labyrityn fish fight just as some other predatory & territorial fish do. Males bettas fight because it is their instinvct to protect a territory & the offspring. People fight because we don't agree with some questions
