Betta fish fighting ring where do u stand?

mah fish have more personality then mah dog.

I can with utmost certainty say that if we would fit in their mouth, almost all of the fish we keep would eat us in a flash.

Not the same for dogs, well my dogs at least (chinese crested hairless) though they may snuggle you to sleep

Why? Some fish like Cichlids, Catfish, Puffers, and Sunfish become very attached to their owners, while some dogs don't. I have a fish that has almost as much personality as my dog. Ironically, it's a Crowntail Betta. My Betta and my Ctenopoma also have more personality than my cat.

I've never heard of a dog that doesn't get attatched to its owner (not even with abused dogs). Fish don't have the same mental capacity as dogs to form a real bond with their owners. Like chefjamesscott said, if you could fit in your fish's mouth it would eat you in a second without hesitation, this would not be the case with dogs.

Fish "bond" with you to get food. It is not because they love you, though many fishkeepers like to think that they do.

edit:livebearer a ? for you. Have any of your fish you mention rushed the glass when you come near to your tank, biting the glass, head butting the glass? Rest assured the fish is not telling you it loves you, if you think so, GO AHEAD STICK YOUR HAND IN THE TANK AND DON'T MOVE IT and see what kind of tough love your fish will have for you. My red devil took my pinky finger up to the second knuckle, thankfully I have some reflex training and was able to very quickly pull my hand out before he got the chance to bite.

Rather I did say if you were small enough to fit in their mouth a fish would eat you.

I speak as someone who has kept fish a long time and quite a number of larger fish who do indeed bond, but I have also take some very good and strong bites from the fish who are so bonded with me. I think of pavlovs dog and the fishes strong association to the one who provides it with food. Yet I have also seen fish that were bonded to other fish suddenly turn and go psycho on everyone in the tank, for such is the nature of a fish.

Would be the same with reptiles, I can say with total certainty that if I was small enough for my snake or herps to get a hold of me and swallow me they would. They are in the end of it all actually animals that are totally not of the mammalian species and therefore lack certain qualities that are present. Yes they make nice pets, yes one needs to do their very best to care for them but make no mistake a fish is a cold blooded killer that will eat whatever it can fit in it's mouth when it get hungry.

Ask anyone who has kept certain species of MILD MANNERED catfish who have great personality what happens to the catfishs tankmates. When the dinner bells chimes FISH EAT FISH and if we were in the water with them and were smaller or they larger for sure they would eat us, it is in their nature!

I ask a ? other than d o u c h e bag men, have you ever seen a male decimate and murder his mate in the human world like happens all to often in the fish tank?

I must say in the end of it all FISH ARE FISH not people. To place human qualities on a fish is folly at best!!

I seriously hate them that much. Funniest is when one flared up just before it got eaten.

Why?
Bettas are great fish. They have so much personality and are good low-maintanence fish. Rather than an ethics debate, why do you use 5 dollar feeders?

Pointless to debate with a person who believes there is NO cruelty in the rodeo world. As I have stated. CONVICTIONS, INVESTIGATIONS, both past and present! ACTUAL!

ALso you missed the point, the horse should have NEVER been put in that position to be injured in the first place for your entertainment! PERIOD!
And your argument that if it were bad it would be banned is weak!.....Over the course of our history, there have been HUNDREDS of laws that have been rewritten, changed, amended, or gotten rid of, just in my fathers lifetime civil rights were granted. Things like Stem cell research, homosexual marriage, and military service, terrorist treatment, animal rights bills etc, things that have been in practice for generations LIKE SLAVERY was never right simply cause it was legal....same thing with rodeo!
Rodeo is funded by sponsorships, corporations, and government aid. They have regulations, yet the practice and enforcements of these regulations are not always done correctly, and it's at the animals expense. I have been in law enforcement since I left the military for over 10 years, I have been to countless rodeo shows here in Houston, before, during and after the show. I'm not ignorant to the workings of the organization, I even acknowlege the good things that come out of rodeo, such as scholorships, financial assistance, etc. But if you assume there is no animal cruelty in rodeo than the *** in this convo is self evident.

Man ppl are so uninformed...Ok if you hurt a stock contractors stock(contractor=guy who brings bulls or horses) then you are in big trouble. Ok you said the horse never shoulda been put in that position...ok the twin towers got blown up we never shoulda sent soldiers to fight in iraq they are in danger they should stay here so we lose more people when we can easily prevent it! And i know there is some cruelty but if rodeos are ran right like most are then its less cruel then teaching your kid to water ski by tieng them to a rope and going 70+ mph...I hate people who talk bad about rodeo... Heck we should just stop harvesting any world foods there's a arguement its cruel we should just breath air and drink water WAIT we can't the water molecules dont deserve to go through our bodys and be passed through just so we can live a few more hours. And its cruel to the air who wants to be inhaled into lungs a damp dark scary place...We should just end all human and animal life we are just too cruel for LIFE....
