Why?:screwy:
Bettas are great fish. They have so much personality and are good low-maintanence fish. Rather than an ethics debate, why do you use 5 dollar feeders?

Forgive me for having a different sense of humour, but I really do get a kick out of watching a betta flair up like it is some big bad mean fish only to get popped like a breath mint.

I never said I buy them, when people offer me a betta I say sure and then I feed it to my other fish. Much the same as sometimes when I am netting out some of my africans to give them a better tank, if there is one particular fish that is adept at evasion I either mark that fish for a long life or I throw it in with my aro or tiger shovel. There was one little demasoni that took me a good 12 minutes to get in the net fast little thing so I looked at him when finally got him in the net and gave him a thumbs up.

I really can not get as emotionally attached to fish as some people. Simply put they are just fish.

My hatred of betta's stems from watching one totally decimate his tank mates just cause he had a bad attitude.

For me it is a huge waste of a tank if I can't keep more than one EXCEPTIONALLY COMMON type of fish.

You feed fish that piss you off to other fish? Some sense of humor :screwy:
I seem to remember someone doing that with a Cichlid and a tank of Piranhas and getting flamed...
And people bring you their Bettas looking for a good home for them, and you take them and feed them to your fish? Remind me to never sell you a fish.

Im against all of it. I dont care what kind of animal it is, I dont think fish should be forced to fight under any circumstance for the sake of entertainment. I do think people should be punished for it. But people rarely get jail time for dog fighting. Even some of the worse animal abuse, only gets people a fine.

so then the bettas have no chance of survival?? i really dont understand how you can take anger out on fish that didnt even do squat to you.........:screwy:

?? Don't quite get the wtc/iraq analogy? In comparison to animals forced to participate in rodeo for entertainment? I'm a veteran and I CHOSE to join repeat CHOSE as in MY CHOICE to be an instrument of wrath against whomever my CIC/government chose to unleash us upon. By the way you do realize IRAQ wasn't the attacking institution against the U.S. right? [I'm just saying Al-Qaeda/Iraq not the same thing]...anyway...
If I taught a kid to ski and foced him to learn in such a way against his will as you stated that would be cruel in itself. And don't give me the "BRED" to be in rodeo type events crap PEOPLE use to be considered "BRED" to till the land and work against their will, and it wasn't right. I can breed a duck to crap in a toilet doesn't mean it should be done! Especially for ENTERTAINMENt.
Your food argument again is weird....Food gathering is to promote, sustain life, health, and population control. Rodeo, dog fighting, cock fighting etc is done for ENTERTAINMENT and profit!

Enjoy your rodeo, it's okay. All I'm saying is I find rodeo to be cruel nothing you say will change that view for me. If you don't feel that way that is fine, maybe next time I see you, I will lean out my car throw a rope around you, jump out hog tie your ***, stand up and cheer!....And I won't think to ask you how you feel about it, cause hey me and my friends thought it was entertaining and fun! ANd if I break your neck in the process it's cool cause I didn't mean too!

Actually this has nothing to do with a fish pissing me off. Truly if they pissed me off I would use the tools of my trade muahahhahahah. NO this has nothing to do with getting angry with a fish.

Simple ? for you in choice of feeders.

A)I go to the pet store and by disease ridden goldfish or others sold there and take the chance my fish inherit the bad stuff by virtue of eating it.

B)I use prodigious fish like cichlids from my tanks who are disease free. Now if I so choose to throw an extra fish to my carnivours why not one that will prove to be an exercise feeder for my carnivour. By this I mean if it can avoid the net for 12 minutes I am sure my carnivour will get it's fair share of exercise trying to eat said fish.

If people want to flame me for using my own bred and raised cichlids and the occasional betta I get given to me for feeders, I hope they are ready for the carrot I will stick in the nozzle of their flame thrower!!!:naughty:

Now about the bettas that people have brought me, trust me it was more merciful to feed them to the big boys than to prolong their sorry existence that was brought on by being kept by a human being that thought a bowl was good enough. As it has been said BOWLS ARE FOR SOUP GET A TANK!!!.

Hate me for what I am about to say but the reality of nature is that animals/fish eat each other.

This thread has gone waaaaay out of it's original boundaries. It had potential as an interesting ethics debate, but then animal rights...then politics...

I have to admit, it was kinda fun :D

Flame you? Nah, never. You keep your fish, your way, and I keep mine, my way. I have seen your fish before, you must be doing something right ;)

I disagree with you, but to each his own.

And don't forget the dispute over whether fish bond with their owners.;)
