Betta spawn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually, you might disregard my comment. Based on what I googled, they look to be one and the same. I have a white mystery snail. I haven't noticed it to eat anything but shrimp pellets. I can even "call it" out of hiding by reaching into the tank with a pellet!

Apple snails and mystery snails are the same.
They eat any leftover food, Or dead fry.
You still need to clean the bottom.
But they help a lot. And you need an
airstone or something, Or they will crawl out.

Spike:grinno:

Funny - I just noticed that a few of the babies survived from the mystery snail egg pod thingy (they're prettyfunky looking) that hatched a fw weeks ago. I moved it into a separate container and created a platform just above water level. Didn't realize for a few days that the pod hatched and the babies were underneath. Wasn't sure they would survive back in the tank but at least 6 did.

Can I feed fry very finely crushed pellets

Boil and egg and just take a very small piece of yolk(yellow) and dip it in water then refrigerate whats left over .thats what I did when I had my bettas spawn and add live plants ,the baby fry eat small plankton like things that grow on the plants

You can TRY feeding them egg yolk like reechardd said but... you really should have started live vinegar eels or microworm cultures before you even introduced the pair. Sorry. You'll probably have some survive but they do substantially better when fed live foods from the beginning. I say try to get your hands on an already started culture asap.

I'm not sure if anybodies noticed... but apple snails poop A LOT. So they don't improve your water quality, they actually decrease it faster, which is counter productive and means you have to do more water changes. So adding one is not something I'd ever do.

I would highly recommend cycling your growout tank before hand next time. It will make water maintenance easier. So for future reference add a sponge filter and cycle the tank. An unfiltered growout tank will result in stunted bettas and a higher death rate.

Here are some great articles I would read thoroughly.

I never said i didnt have a grow out tank. I spawned the bettas in an unfiltered tank thats why im asking. The fry are so small idk if they can survive transfer. I always have tanks ready because i know what the stakes of breeding fish are. As for live food my lfs cultures daphnia so I'll be getting some from them. I just asked about the pellets cause I dont wanna spend and if the pellets are a good alternative then why spend money? This spawn was unintentional and unexpected. Im just asking for alternatives.

Thanks for the links btw.

I was the same way bro lol I didn't want to spend money so I used egg yolk and the plants ,they said let the plants in a container with water then add it to the fry tank ,small plant life grows on it like worms or whatever and they eat that also ,your in Cali like I am so you shouldnt worry about the heater cause it's hot af this week lol
