Which do you find more interesting, beautiful or overall just better?
Africans or South American Cichlids?

south american because of discus cichlids.
they are called the king of freshwater fish after all.

i say both, any cichlids is a good cichlid.

africans can be kept in large groups in smaller tank and come in so many colors.

south american have nice colors and size but i cant have 20 in a 55 gallon confortably.

i currently have a paratilapia polleni and im falling in loooove.
does the polleni have a big head? ive seen pics of them before

i have to say south american.. seeing as almost every fish i own is from south america.. lol

Does SA include CA? Because CA cichlids are hands down my favorite. However, if SA does not include CA in this poll, then the choice is much more difficult. SA has Cichla and crencichla genuses which, aside from a few other species here and there, are what pique my interest in SA cichlids. As for Africans; the rift lake fishes, while colorful and interesting, never did it for me. It was always the non-rift lake Africans that I loved. Tilapia and Paratilapia of course, but then the Hemichromis genus: Elongatus and Frepongii, for example, are some bad ass fish if you can find them.

Id prefer South Americans over Africans for personality.

For looks Africans but I like South American... But..

The only cichlids I have are 2 Africans...
