Americans for me. Im getting rid of all my Africans to make place for more monster fish. The personalities on the South Americans are just so unique. I love all my Americans
SA and CA Cichlids way better , More personality and just are nicer IMO .
But Africans have very nice bright colours , which is i think the only reason i like them and when they are in 1 large group the colours just pop and look great .
So i would deffently pick the SA and CA Cichlids over Africans .
Take your pick I have 3 different types in one tank North American, South American and African... this didn't happen purposely but it is working out great so far... Seriously though they are all great but it just depends on your taste in fish and also what your water is like etc.... Africans do great with high ph and hard water and thats what I got running at the tap so the Africans have done great in the water we have here they are very hardy! We also have a very successful mix of a large variety of african cichlids in a 125 and a 55 including malawi hap, mbuna, peacock, some vics and tangs in there too and they are so far getting along just fine so I would say Aficans win as far as being able to have variety and believe me they have personality you just have to watch and see for yourself! But there are many CA and SA that I like as well it just that they are way more $$$ and probably harder to care for need more space and can't keep alot of dif types together so it is a toss up but I'd go with Africans heck I got 10 tanks full of them lol
I like them both equally as there are small numbers of both that I am into.I dont keep mbuna, they just dont appeal to me and most of my favorite Africans are Tanganyicans. When it comes to the Americans I am only into cichla and grammodes currently.
