What about rams, apistos, and the tons of other American dwarfs? Or frontosa, emperors, blue dolphins, etc.?

I'm a big fan of Tanganyikans, SA dwarfs, and Thorichthys. I couldn't choose between Old World vs. New World

...and that reminds me-what about Asian cichlids? What if someone likes them? (even though I'm pretty sure there are only 2)

Which is New World and which is Old World Cichlids?????

The "New World" is the Americas, the "Old World" is everywhere else

Hi...first post so be gentle

I thought this thread would help in resolving my dilemma:
One small tank (4ft), what to get SA,CA vs African...I'm still confused.

Would love to have just a pair of cichlids but africans usually like harems and seems like americans would be too big for my tank...any suggestions???

I like africans the best.

Most people who say Africans are just small and pretty with no personality obviously haven't kept many Africans. When people think of "African Cichlids," they immediately think of mbuna. There are so many different types.

There are many monstrous Africans, not only in the Rift Lakes.

Look up Bathybates, Serranochromis, Paratilapia, Boulengerochromis, Tyrranochromis, and Champsochromis and tell me Africans aren't monsters.




BTW, i believe there are 4 Asian cichlids, the 3 Indian Etropolus, and the Iranian Iranocichla.
