Hi, been keeping BGK's for about 3 years now but over the last few day's I've noticed a weird lump/swelling grow on a 6"+ female from what I've studied but probably no guarentee's.
She seems perfectly fine, swimming, feeding etc and I was thinking she was constipated but I saw her pooing so I'm confused now. I've put her in a seperate mature hospital tank and going to starve her for a few days and see if it reduces. I've also got salts in the water to try and help.
Here's some photo's, not brilliant but you can see what I mean.

Has anyone seen this happen before on their BGK?
She's in a large tank with an 11"+ BGK, male I hope and they're fine although I know they should be in a bigger group or single. The previous owner of the small one gave her to me as they couldn't keep it any longer.
I even rescued one a couple of years ago after an idiot had one in with a GAR and got ripped badly and half tail bit off. I called it Stumpy :D

However, I haven't seen this problem before, any idea's?

Looks like a tumor or something (not sure). She doesn't look like she's getting fatter, have you been overfeeding her? Just continue the heater, salts and water changes.

no, she's not getting any fatter in the stomach and it's hard to tell if the lump is bigger today but i'm keeping a close eye on it.
Feeding, i tend to feed the meaty foods every 2-3 days, ie: bloodworm/mealworms/prawns etc but on the "days off" I feed flake for the 3 gold panchax's. She eats that aswell but the large bgk doesn't bother. Yes she probably eats more than i'd like but it's been like this for about 8 month with no problems until the lump appeared last week.
Thanks for the replies :)

Hmmm, looks like a tumor, but I'm not sure.....

yes, it looks like a tumor to me too! the other thing it could be is...i was reading this other thread and a guy said that he bought a cichlid who had this on the TOP of its head then after two weeks it spread to another fish after exploding out of the first fish's head. how his angel has it. although, it doesn't look as big as this one. so i would say maybe it is a tumor because the other thingy that was on that guys fish looked like it had some kind of a pimple, but a big one. this one looks sort of like a lump. can't you ask your LFS to help you?

You said that she is in a tank with a male BGK - could this be eggs????

Neervana, I work in an LFS but never seen this before on a BGK which is why i came here to see if anyone else had seen it before :)
I'll keep what you said in mind about it popping and spreading etc but it's isolated in a seperate tank anyway.
Eggs, i wouldn't know what a egg laiden BGK looked like so I honestly wouldn't know but it's NOT going back in incase it's not.
Twisted, I'll have to hunt about as it was a few years ago when I had Stumpy, not sure if I have any pics now :(

Thanks for the replies :)

I don't think they are eggs coz the lump is very far away from the stomach. which is near the reprodutive organ of the bgk.
