you are right rkrum. I say it's a Guinea lap.

and in case anyone's wondering, no it wouldn't be nearly this bright purple in real life.

largest i've seen pics of is ~31". It is likely the largest species, with unconfirmed reports of nearly 4ft. Since its never been verified, who knows. Regardless of its max size, i still believe its likely the largest bichir species.

realistic max size in aquariums is something else. most bichirs don't get as big as max recorded wild size. heck, even wild fish may not always get as big as max size recorded.

you're right. the one singapore lfs are selling recently are lapradei, captive bred in indonesia. But i can assure you those are not the same as the pic here.
