plus very fast growth, and a BIG bichir. :D

What is the largest recorded size for a lap? Could the big size just be because the b.b's are only F1 or F2 where as the laps have been captive bred for generations, possibly with no care taken to ensure quality stock by selecting the biggest/best coloured etc?

laps get to 2 feet max in the wild.
in captivity,yes,they get smaller.
they grow slow.
bichir bichir get to over 30 inches and are possibly the largest bichir species.

laps have been captive bred only very recently. Before that, laps are wild caught. The captive bred ones available right now are all baby between 2"-3", and they haven't been exported to many places yet. So even now, most laps in most places are still wild caught.

and yes they do grow slow, sometimes painfully so, although i'm sure initial growth rate for small ones could be decently fast. maybe people who have bought these baby laps could tell us in the near future. in aquariums, max size is likely 18"-20" and will take a long time to get there.
