my new senagal isint eating what foods do u recomend i try ????? a response would be very helpful:eek:

Depending on how big he is try guppies or feeder commits. Also feed him right after you shut the light on the tank out, that's what I do with my Delhizi and he is eating like a pig!

Mine eat bloodworm, pellet, flake, chopped tilapia, earthworms, and chopped scallops.

How long have you had it seems like we never see ours eat; We have 3 of them but they do tend to like live food best. Like what was mentioned feed just after lights are shut out if you want to see if you can watch it eat you could try an actinic light in a dark room semi creating a night setting. When they get hungry apparently they will eat a lot our ornate was eating 2,2 inch peacocks a night for a few days then just quit. Then about a week later decided to clean up the feeder nics. What ever and when ever they eat they just seem to grow over night because one day you will notice man that thing has grown.

I would never feed your fish, store bought feeders it is an extremeley bad thing to do.
All fish are different so nobody here can tell you what your bichir would eat.
Mine eats bloodworms, silver sides, sinking hikari pellets and sometimes worms.

Hope this helped

Did you really just reccomend feeders? I'm not even going to get into the nutritional, disease introduction, ethical part of the debate against feeders...but simply, why? All they do is make your senegal, one of the tamest of the bichirs agressive...not to mention you will probably kill your senegal with some disease intoduced due to poor quartining and whatever else a feeder brings with it...

Try earthworms, I have yet to see a healthy bichir pass up a wriggling earth worm...Also silversides, sinking quality pellets (extremely strong smelling), blood worms, brine shrimp...the list goes on and on. Getting a bichir (especially a farm raised senegal) to eat should not be a problem, they are not picky at all. If it refuses to eat all of that, after a week of it being introduced to your aquarium, then there is probably something wrong with it.

First of all how long have you had him, and what are you feeding him?. What I feed my bichirs is tilapia, shrimp, pellets, and beef heart. Also I have read that bichirs will shut down for about 2 weeks and what I mean shut down is not eat at all, reason why I mention that is because I had a few bichirs that did do that which they say is normal

I'm sorry Dr. Jesse Phd in everything fish related, I forgot that no matter what ALL feeders have disease and no matter what ALL fish will become aggressive when they eat them. For your information if you get feeder fish from a reliable source they have NO disease and NOT ALL fish will become aggressive if you feed them live. I have been feeding all my fish live for years and have never had a single aggression issue or issue with disease. Why don't you think about about all the possibilities before you attack someone about there suggestion. How long have you been in the hobby? exactly! I have been in the hobby longer than you have been alive my friend!! Why don't you focus on getting a job and paying off that huge water bill you are crying about!!! I'm truly sorry for derailing this thread but this guy seems to follow me around and bash everything I say so I'm just sticking up for myself against a little high school punk.
