Are these pretty fun to have im getting a bigger tank for a my senegal and it look weird cause im gonna get a huge tank i wondering will it be cool to do this.

thats basically all i have. depends on what you mean by fun. Unless you make sure you stock it with enough individuals of the few species that are known for their activity, most of the time the space above the substrate will look quiet and empty. for me that doesn't matter.

you can trick them by making it a well planted tank, that way, some of the bichirs will be inclined to hide out in the plants, so they'd be above the substrate and occupy different levels of the tank. But again, that doesn't necessarily equal activity.

My tank was (at first) themed around african oddballs, so I kept Leopard Bushfish, African Butterfly fish, and now some livebearers (as dither fish) along with my bichirs. My bichirs still get a lot of comments though!

Wow a Comrade! :headbang2

I had a bichir only tank for a while. It housed 1 buetikofferi, 1 Delhezi, 2 Senegals and a rope fish. Even though the Senegals were active I ended up adding two african butterfly fish to add some upper level movement.

BTW.. yea the tank is uneven.. running a AC110 on a 13" tall tank does not work well with fake plants :D

I always thought it would be awesome to have a tank like yours, Mudfrog. I think it's 'cause I love fish that stay on the bottom. Did you make that tank yourself?

Nope, they are 50 gallon breeders (48x18x13) from Glasscages.. I think they only run like $70 or so, they are great for bottom dwellers :D

This all depends what you want. Upper jaw bichirs make good tankmate with a lot of fish. I have upper jaws with angelfish so it's never boring. The angelfish are too busy fighting all day in their dysfunctional hierarchy order and the bichirs are too busy cruising through the decor crevices at all level of the tank. To sum this all up, take INFBLUE advice and decide what you want out of your tank then we offer better answer. Lower jaw grow big and looked fierce but very little activity to amuse you or your guest. Upper jaws are generally pretty active and will amuse you by cruising the tank.
