Bichir only tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think its best if you have at least 2 tanks, 1 that has very still, not as active fish, and the other one with hyperactive fish

Works for me, can't get enough of either tank

Have at least one senegal and some more of the upperjaw species. They seem to be the more active ones.

Hello MFK. Im hoping i could get some quick tank size advise plz...
I want to set up a bicher only tank. Im thinking a senegal, a retropinnis, and a buettikoferi.
What would be a good size tank to keep them in long term?
What would be a good size if i was to add an ornate to the mix later on?

B BillyCross , probably would have been better to start up your own question than to add on to this old one.

New to site, stayed with topic.
Do you have any helpful information concerning the topic?

B BillyCross it really depends on how many your gonna put in the tank, most of the polys you mentioned grows 1', if your inly gonna put three 125g you can keep them for life, but if your gonna put more 150g or 180g is the best.

I was intending on buying a 150T (60x24x24) from miracles for xmas. Would this be an appropriate footprint for bichirs like the ornate (18"-24")?
The 72x24x24 length will be tough to place (however, not impossible).
I know bigger is better, but we all know the pains of larger tank space and weight configurations. These are the absolute largest i could go and i want to make a nice home for them. Knowing how species only tanks become "trophy cases", im trying to figure where my limit will be in terms of how many i can keep in these sizes of tanks.
