can you buy beefheart at any store that sells meat?
would it be okay to drop small amounts of beef into the aquarium such as steak or does that contain too much fat? and finally what other fish would you recomend keeping with 1 senegal and 3 leopard ctenopomas in a 55g? preferably species from africa

thanks to those who take the time to reply.

I've heard a lot of people say it won't work, but I've got a polypterus senegalus with approximately 14 cichlids from lake Malawi. They get along perfectly fine, and they all enjoy feeding time, especially if it's shrimp.

As for beef heart, I'm fairly certain you can get it at any store that sells meat. If not, I'm sure you can ask them if they can help you attain some!

You can buy beefheart made especially for fish too. There are many different brands at Petsmart and Petco for instance. As well as other frozen foods. Most frozens foods for fish are enriched and have vitamins too.

beefhaert is that good a food and i really wouldn;t go throught hat much trouble to get it.

if your 3 ctenopomas are geeting on good, then you could add more polys, and african butterfly fish, a mormyrid, different polies, maybe a pair of kribs...

i've heard you can ask for beefheart at most places that sell meat and they will give it to you. you have to cut out ALL the fat that you can. I don't feed it that often, so I just buy the frozen stuff from petsmart. i wouldn't try steak.

I've heard that mammal or bird fat can mess up the liver of cichlids, so it might be the same for bichirs. Thats why beefheart is okay, it is basically pure muscle. Why don't you try raw shrimp or fish fillet?

You can get it at most butchers just got to ask . BUt its a big thing and you can blend it down and spinach ,other veg and a little natural gelatin and freeze it in blocks . Very cheap ,good food .

thanks for all the advice guys , has anyone ever kept an african butterfly with polys?
