I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be.

well i wasnt sure if catfish were ok with sand for the most part..but thnx for the answer

IMO any bottom dweller will do better with sand then gravel there's no chance for them to choke ur gets scraps that would cause a bacteria infection. Also fish like cories and loaches gravel and wear down the barbells and sand won't.

Don't try to dig in the sand, stay above it. Fish waste is still lighter than sand, even the real fine grain stuff. The coarser your sand, the closer you can get. This is why preparation is so important though, if you don't get all the "dust" out, it'll come up every time it's disturbed, and stay in suspension a long time, potentially damaging filters with unprotected impellers and just plain not looking good.

"Pre-washed" just means you shouldn't have to wash it as much.:irked:

Call me old-fashion, but i still like gravel. Well I got one that is fine enough so that it wont cause any fatal blockage if my bichirs actually swallowed some. But I won't be too worried since they sieve their food before swallowing.

I have sand for my guys and they are doing very well. The only thing with sand is it is tougher to clean (just a heads up)
