Hi i want suggestions for chill tank mates! i dont want plecos since i've only heard bad things about them and i personally kept them with oscars and if you ask me that makes 0 sense even tough most google searches promote the oscar and bichir combo.. the oscar would just eat all the food even right out of the bichirs mouth , i was thinking of rope fish/ eel type of oddball tank maybe even somethings thats a little more active and a top swimmer since there is times where the fish just spend hours on the bottom and 90% of the tank looks empty just spam me please anything that you can think of thats preferably a little more ''chill''

A group of chalceus...pretty chill, will not eat off of the bottom. Very cool topwater fish. Some people do the African leopard leaf/bush fish. I have seen African butterfly fish with them. Big enough tank I hear gar are the perfect tank mates...

What kind of poly do you have?

i havent thought of chalceus i've never seen it in a fish store ever, isnt the leaf fish half brackish?:/ if so thats a bit of a turn off for me , i've always thought the african butterfly was small and boring but honestly i was one recently and i thought it was really cool , might go with a butterfly or 2 , they are also ehm not sure about the enligh word ''meat/fish eaters'' ?

How big is the tank? Maybe a different american cichlid? I had a couple red shoulder severums a few years back that were beautiful, and about as chill as a fish could get

Ctenopoma are full freshwater, i have a group of 3 and they are awesome tankmates, rapidly becoming my favorite fish in there based on how they hunt. i have a group of raphael catfish as well which are a great addition, they grow large and have small mouths, really cool fish.
