Bichir tank mates! Chill tank mates please!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, just to give you an update and my personal experience...the tetragonopterus argenteus I just recieved had to go. They went after each other, a few of my polys, and a smaller Ntt with gusto. They were unblemished so to speak...but man they are like stunning liltte Piranha. They were very nice looking, but it was a rather failed experiment. I am going with a group of 6 Chalceus macrolepidotus because I know what to expect and think they can co-exist pretty well. I would go with Ctenopoma acutirostre myself, but I don't know if they would stress my Dats. My Dats are wusses outside of feeding time. Hope you find your tank mates. Could always get some Oscars haha.

Thanks for all the fish suggestions !, sorry to hear about ur argenteus i know nothing of this species but honestly JUST MY OPINION i feel like they look like the cute version of a piranah , maybe silver dollars could work to ? ( i've never kept dollars and have no expereince with them ) , the chalceus honestly is a pretty good looking fish but it feels like they need alot of swimming area or am i mistaken ? i had 4 balas in a 190g before and 190g still felt way to small :o .. its a little sad that datnoids seems to get stressed out of anything really.. also the leaf fish i've been thinking about but honestly i watched a video of them on youtube and i didnt really like their appearance to much .. , a small part of me wants to try discuss but im kinda to lazy to feed X amounts of different foods everyday and it COULD go horribly even tough i doubt a poly would go after a discus, im honestly really unsure of what to get and my minds messed up im mad about not getting fish but im also so scared to get the wrong one =c

I still vote severums, pick your favorite color red, green, gold, or my favorite rotkeill. Super easy to keep, very chill, and cheap enough if you change your mind you can give them away without cringing. Grab a pair and try them out.

Maybe some red shoulder or Rotkeil Severums. They are pretty chill and pretty stunning at the same time.

OMG how does that happen...I honestly, didn't know you posted that yet the discus idea led me to that conclusion

Lol great minds.... I kept the Rotkeill or red shoulder for a few yard before i had to move, they were some of the best fish I've ever kept. Poor man's discus or lazy man's discus .

Here is my Chalceus I have a 8-9 inch Erythrurus, and some smaller Macrolepidotus for reference. They just hang out motionless in a group unless they spook or you put food in...
