Bichir with aggressive cichlids.

I used to have mazanita DW, i used to have 3 and now down to 1, they always knockdown the wood and i dont like huge wood since they always hide behind it. Plus growing LJ with some hidding spot, i get scared that they might get stuck. I like how Binge Binge tank is setup, i dont mind doing that with UJ, like he mentioned sen and some UJ like delhezi and palmas polli like to swim around, most LJ become logs when when the become large size, one of the reason i like to keep one decor.
+1 once the lower jaws get to a certainsize dw becomes more of a p.i.t.a with injuries and territorial aggression

Im going to sell my SD and buy some water lettuce, i cant have rooted plants with my big polys inless i tie it somewhere.

Man ur fire brosky

Good point in that I only have upper jaws and ropes so I don't need as much open space. There are some gorgeous scaping jobs on the forum that are much more open and would work for a larger tank with LJs too. It just won't be like my current jungle. (So I'll just have to keep my little jungle too. ;) )

Its hard to keep rooted plants with LJ, most time they will knock down plant cause of how big and powerful the tails are, especially when they get spooked. Sometimes they like to bury themselves in the gravel and that will pull the roots out of the plant. Thats my most people tie the plants in the DW or sucktion cups.

+1

Plus the dw can cause some minor injuries when they get spooked

Oddly enough my gold dust is starting to grow a pair he has been out the last 3 days before I have left for work. No good pictures yet cus I do not want to spook him when he is front and center. He also came out at feeding time last night and grabbed a few cichlid pellets before slinking back to his hole. Every time I see him I get all excited its like I got a new fish lol that first day I made the kids come look he is about 5.5 inches but slender compared to my sens and he is keeping his color dull but it is a step in the right direction.

Sadly it will be a good long time before I have a tank big enough for any LJ species. So all my experience is with smaller UJ species. I do intend to try and get a moke, retro, and two dels over the course of this summer.
The cichlids get thinned down to what I am keeping about 4 weeks from now (local auction time) so likely 5 of the 9 acara and 2 or 3 of my chocholates are going.....Still debateing on whether to thin down my elliots because the 3 I know for sure are males are becoming territorial and aggressive with each other they are only around 4 inches now so I fear flareing becoming nipping in an inch or two.

That being said I definately defer to jaws and poly if you go for the bigger species of bichir however if your going upper jaws and midsize cichlids 6"-10" then decor is a must IMHO for the bichirs to feel safe.
