will they do good in it or will it just kill them eventually?

dunno how to answer it, but if the current is to strong then it would be hard for bichirs to go up for airl. I use a submersible pump in my tank which create the currents inside and also the air bubbles, but not too strong.

because the nossle of my pump is pointed towards the other end of the tank. when i point it upwards the water is so wobbly. it creates waves. so it's an under current.

I dont know if it will kill them, but my two sens and del look really stressed when i add the two air stones to the tank. Not sure if that help cause air stones dont add much of a current just movement in different directions.

well, what should i do with that pump? anyone got ideas? it really creates strong currents

mine one is also pointed towards the other end of the tank through its length, but the nossle is located always half the depth of my tank, so it creates the current in the middle and trows air bubbles as well.
My bichirs got sweep away everytime they swim past through in front of the nossle, but they don't seems to have any problems with that. I guess it will depends on how strong is your pump in comparison with the tank size of yours, but also the size of the bichirs.

My two sens are 3" & 4", my only flow is a rena xp3 on a 65 gallon, spray-bar on side of the tank about an inch deep pointed across the length of the tank. They seem fine for the most part but they do seem to spend a lot of time hanging out behind the spray bar on the suction cups. They can swim around fine, they can both swim straight from the bottom to the top, but it does seem like they can let themselves be swept even across the bottom. So I haven't really decided yet if its stressing them out or not:\

It won't kill them but I'm sure they would prefer no current.
