Big Catfish Sugestions.

Also, Channel catfish.. They exceed 24" but that will take a fairly long time.. PLus you can (probably) buy them at your LFS at like 2-4"

I wouldn't be so sure on that...I have a blue channel cat that I've had for 3 months that I bought at 3 inches thats currently 11 inches. thats roughly 2.5 inches/month

As C L O W N K N I F E mentioned, a sun cat is a great fish, too. I have one, had him about the same amount of time as my blue channel, and he's about 6 inches, got him at 3 inches.

I was reading a thread on the gulper cat. They eat everything. Great looking catfish though.

K, 8 inches in three months is substantial growth. Makes you think that you better have your tank plans well outlined before committing to a big catfish. thanks for your input.

I did see an 16-17 inch bullhead catfish at my LFS this afternoon. Very nice looking fish and the price was right at 30.00. I didn't have a chance to talk to the shopkeeper, but it appeared by the look at it's fins that someone surrendered it this weekend.

The Tigrinus is incredible but I just saw the price...wow!!! 1299.00 for a 21 inch specimen. Great fish but a bit beyond my budget for a fish.

anytime.

as far as the tigrinus, just because its that expensive that big, doesn't mean you have to buy it that big. buy it small, grow it out. thats part of the fun of the hobby!

Kcrandall,

Have not done a lot of research on pricing the tigrinus, I simply saw one listing and it was was high. I have been able to get a nice little collection doing just that, buying small and growing them out.

This is slightly off topic but, I picked up five very small Electric Blue Jack Dempsey's. I had them in a CA/SA cichlid in a small breeder bin. When I did my weekly water change I filled it too much. I didn't notice but I guess the little guys were able to swim out. This morning when I was doing the morning feeding, I noticed that they ate all night long. All five EBJD gone. I got them at a deal, 11.00 a piece at a bout inch long, but regretfully they became food.

Back to your comment...trust me, I be shopping for a small tigrinus ;-) .

That sucks, expensive feeders

Aren't they big also?

BTW, Tstone they have RTC's at my LFS for 30.00(usd)/piece. I have seen then online as low as 20.00 (usd) but 50.00 shipping blows that price out of the water and I read a forum member paid three for theirs. So I don't know if 30.00 is a good price or not. I would pay it in a heart beat. I don't get it now because I am concerned about the RTC when it get to be 3 ft plus (I don't want to make this thread about the morality of owning RTC's).

haha yeah at my lfs they are only $5 they are so cute tho i wish i had a huge pod i would get a bunch of them its sad that since they are so cheap alot of people will be buying them and not giving them proper homes glad your not doing that i would go with channel or bullhead good luck

oh also 2 spot catfish or twin spot cant remember exact name are awesome dont get to big i think but they can be pretty aggressive my friend has one and it rules his oscar tank and the oscars are 3 times his size!

tigs are very nice for slow growers, if you want a faster grower go for an achara
i currently have both and the achara grows 5x as fast
