its not that I dont want to change my mind. its that I live with Charlie and see him every day and know how healthy and magnificent he is.

I see the proof that the naysayers like yourself are wrong each and every day.

every single day.

as far as the nitrates go, of course if you were to give him a tank 10x the volume it would have a massive dilution effect.

that would be a 1500 gallon tank. how big do you think my office is? lol

I'll bet big Charlie gets a lot of interaction with people for stimulation in that office environment. Intelligent fish who get a lot of time with their owners could probably care less about a fake plant or rock in their tank. Wish I could hang with my fish as much as you obviously do.

I'm not gonna play fish police but obviously a bigger tank would be "better". No one can doubt that but let's not start talking crazy ish like 1500 gallon tanks...something like a 250-300g might be reasonable and a significant improvement though :naughty:

How bout it 12 volt? Office renovation time!

As people have said on Facebook, its plain to see Charlie is well fed, fat and well taken care of.

As i said over on reddit, even if i could get a bigger tank (say I win the lotto tomorrow lol) the act of moving him out of this one and into another one will likely smash the **** out of him. Very big fish are hard to net and move around without them getting smashed up. I'd almost rather leave him in here in perfect health than attempt to move him and have an injury occur. But again, thats something the naysayers never consider. Most of them really dont have a clue when it comes to keeping big fish.

Charlie's new tank. It's cheaper than glass or acrylic. :naughty:

And doesn't need nearly as much cleaning!
No water replacements, no filter cleaning, no gravel vaccuming. Just a trip through the dishwasher when Charlie has gone down the gullet! ?

Pictures of Charlie are all over the forum in various sub sections. I had a bit of a wager with myself some time ago regarding who'd be the first to comment on the 150g tank size. The "who" I reckoned would say something was M MultipleTankSyndrome . Lol.

Yes, Charlie does look great, he looks healthy. I've no doubt he has a fantastic appetite too, and a healthy varied diet to satiate that appetite. And yes, GG's in my experience aren't exactly super active fast swimmers, they are slow and laborious, most of the time, so you could argue that a smaller tank is ok for this relatively inactive fish.

Saying all that though, I had my RTGG in a 180g for a long time but there came a time when things just didn't look right anymore. These fish are huge and it soon dawned on me that I really needed to upgrade for that fish to tank ratio to look a little better, which I did in the form of a 360g fibreglass tank.

Besides, by this time mine was showing signs that he wasn't particularly happy any longer by way of throwing the odd wobbler, usually resulting in water everywhere. Since his move to the 360g he seems a lot happier, no more wobblers!

In short, to me, when my GG hit about 13", and fat and deep with it, in my 180g, it just looked wrong. I can't imagine seeing Charlie, at 20", in the flesh, cruising in that little 150g.

I hope that if your office situation changes, or you decide to move him elsewhere, then his next tank is bigger. I think Charlie deserves an upgrade, he is quite a star on here.

Funny, I just realized that example of a 5,680 liter tank's waste dilution is coincidentally very close to how big a tank I feel Charlie would need, based on my personal rule of thumb.
That rule of thumb is: a tank should be at least 9x the length and 2.5-3x the width of the biggest fish. Height is less important unless the fish is something like angelfish, so in Charlie's case I'll assume it's 1.5x his length (which is what I feel would be an appropriate starting point for giant gourami tank height after seeing them at the zoo like I mentioned).

Assuming Charlie is 539mm, the tank he'd need would be at least 4.85m long, 1.35m wide, and 81cm tall. That is 5,303 liters.
