Big fish please help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tinfoils are practically like oscars in size if you keep them long enough so a school in a 180g is not so good. I wouldn't keep more than a bonded pair of oscars in a tank that size, let alone a school of tinfoils. Silver sharks are pretty long too (~8").

Yeah the geophagus is so chill for a cichlid. I had an Oscar with a bichir and a hoplias molabaricus(common wolf) a while ago, the Oscars are also great but they're so messy! I was thinking instead of angels maybe a school of tinfoil barbs or a few silver sharks think I'd prefer them to angels
Lol might want to upgrade to a massive tank for tin foils. I had only 2 8inch ones and they were glassbangers. Also another really dirty fish.

No problem, love sharing pictures of fish haha

Nice looking lil guy. Awesome looking river tank too. Your lil Oscar kind of reminds me of my lil one I had back a few years ago. Almost all black except mine changed colors allot with mood. He was black when excited, gray when bored, and brown when he was mad. Never had another Oscar like him since.

I have had quite a few Oscars over the years, and I must say this little has grown on me the quickest. He is really beautiful. Those videos are from when I had just introduced him. Now that he is settled and already the boss of the tank, I am seeing the colour changes you are describing.

I agree with Magnus above. Add more geos to your system. They are really great, peaceful and personable fish. Kept in a group you can observe some of their more natural behavior.
My freshwater aquarium is the same dimesnions as yours. At the moment I have 7 x geophagus red head Tapajos, 6 tinfoils I am growing out, and just got a totally black Oscar.
I agree! Geos usually work well with cichlids :) Good luck!

I ended up adding a blue acara, 6 baby tinfoil barbs and 2 leopard Bush fish. All seem to be getting on great :) tank still looks relatively empty but much more activity now

Only thing is the not so aggressive geophagus is harassing the blue acara. Constant following with its mouth open but isn't actually trying to nip or anything. Is that aggression?
