Big fish please help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't get too caught up in adding more cichlids to spread the aggression. More cichlids means higher bio-load.
I don't know if it'd make a massive difference at the moment, my tanks like 700L and the majority of my stock are still young and I've got 2 external filters, as they grow I'm a add either a strong internal or another external. At the minute the tank still looks empty haha

It will in about 6 months, tinfoils grow really fast.

Yeah, I've heard haha. When I was researching them it was saying a minimum tank size of around 250L now I've got a 700L tank and people are telling me I may need to upgrade it :(

Yes that is territorial aggression.
It's strange to watch because the red hump earth eater isn't actually acting aggressively towards the acara more towards anything that goes near the acara. I think the acara may be male and the red hump female. She just won't leave him be but the acaras doing what I suppose he'd be doing even if she weren't following him, he looks chill

I agree with Magnus above. Add more geos to your system. They are really great, peaceful and personable fish. Kept in a group you can observe some of their more natural behavior.
My freshwater aquarium is the same dimesnions as yours. At the moment I have 7 x geophagus red head Tapajos, 6 tinfoils I am growing out, and just got a totally black Oscar.

Man your Tapaojos are Just beautiful! I’m curious how old they are, and how long it took to reach their current size?

Thanks man! I was just about to post a thread of them now with their current batch of fry.
They are about 2 and half years old now. Got them as little inch lings. They aren't the fastest growing of fish. The largest of the bunch is now just shy of 17cm, the smallest of the bunch is just over 12cm by the looks of it. (I got 6 all together, the seventh and smallest one I got later on).
