Big fish/True Measurements

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just an update, took one minute to catch my dovi, one minute to photograh the fish. Back in the tank, no problems, fact is he is trying to breed wtih his female this morning.

So these folks who cannot measure their fish, when questioned...........it can be done.

u can use a free program called image j and just analyze a picture of the fish taken from far away to reduce the differences from the front and the rear of the tank..

you can use the whole length of the tank to calibrate and just measure the length of the fish afterwards... it essentially gives you a conversion factor to go from length to pixels which u can use to get the length of the fish.. :D

I have a tape measure

if ur trying to measure a fish while its still in the tank a tape measure isn't accurate with the angles of sight and all..

tape measure out of water is GREAT :D but i dont like taking my Ps out just to measure them.. cant really use nets.. 2 foot arowanas are also a pain to net out and measure

i always notice that the true size of a fish when seen from a tank outside can be deceiving than actually seeing it out of the tank.

And you started at 2''. Your chunky dovi looks to be 14''.....lmao!

"btw he is "only" about 15 inches long"

I guess, from your observations, that only datnoid memebers own rulers?

lol, yeah. looks like it.

I think the fact that dats grow so slowly and they can fetch such a high price, that every inch counts. That might be why I've seen so many dats on towels.

Your dovi is a beast, by the way.

,

I agree if they are just kind of rough measured from say 6" from the glass but
its within a few mm,probably less,if they are right up aganst the glass as i have checked as i said before, and i do know how to use a tape measure etc:D
