Big Mouth in California

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They surpase 3'. The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Fishes, Whales & Dolphins lists them as growing to 3' 2". I have seen them at 3'+ in wild (maybe i shouldnt say wild cause it is a stocked pond, i think they may be fed too).

Length wasn't given but current record for largemouth bass is 22 lbs 4oz. In most staes if you get caught with an undersize gamefish you get fined and they can take the fish and your fishing liscense, if you have several they go to court and confiscate your tanks.

It is a retarded law, you can catch and eat the fish but cannot keep it, seems dumb to me.

You can keep game fish in MN and a lot of people do this too. You can also keep small/baby gamefish too if you have a child with you and say it's for him/her. I swear some of these laws are totally wierd, how did they come up with these laws.

I don't know where these laws come from. Here in NY I think you can keep game fish but need a permit. Whats stupid is that the bag limit for some of the common fish like bluegill and bullhead is very high, even unlimited if I remember correctly but noooo, you cannot keep them in a fish tank at home but you can keep some of the minnows like golden shiners, bluegill are just as common as goldens but since they are a "game fish" the rules are different.

Another law that really grinds my gears, you need a permit for pirahna. Why? Its not like they are going to colonize NY waters.

It's just funny how they consider Bluegill/sunny's gamefish period. To me they're as close to the common goldfish as you can get. They will never be endangered even if humans try their best to make that happen, kind of like insects.

I recently caught a juv Big Mouth Bass in Cali. Currently, I'm keeping him in a 75 gallon tank in the back of the shop I work at. What exactly happens if someone should happen to get me in trouble for having one.

Are you in Indiana?

I agree with u on that. the Laws are stupid. Here in WA when the river floods over the salmon start swimming on the road and most will die due to being stranded. You can't even pick the fish up to eat. You have to leave them there and let them die and rot away. That was pretty *** right there.

Most states will allow you to keep legally caught gamefish if you have a fishing liscence, the fish has to be of legal size.
