Just Toby;4771191; said:Yes, I posted a pic of one which was nearly 48" from snout to tail and around 36 across. (pic inserted below but really doesnt do justice to her size, she was eating in the pic and her disc is pulled up a little, she is pregnant in the pic and last litter was 18 pups - kept at Maidenhead aquatics in IVER) She was in an 8X4 foot print tank.

I just gave her away at 26-27 inch diameter (and heavy) a month ago......she was 20-inches in around a year......I think she was a genetic monster, as she grew that big in a 240 gallon (6' x 30"wide) with several cichlids and a smaller male hystrix.....I miss her, but she is now in a great home at H2O Custom Aquatics.....She will be in a huge pond, something almost none of us could give our rays.....

Looks closer to 26-28"
Each one of those strips below the ray, look to be equal in width... there are 8 of them... meaning each one is 6" wide.. she is the width of 4 of them, plus a bit of another...

Oddball;4768311; said:The false theory that fish grow smaller in captivity derives from the time before routine water changes became a norm in aquarium maintenance (perform a search on methamoglobin and methamoglobinemia in aquaria). Maintaining proper water parameters (and providing a varied diet) will yield fish that will grow (at least) as large as their wild counterparts.
