recently i have had a sudden urge to keep a reptile
This should be the first thing that tells you to wait until you are more serious.
Your "sudden urge" most likely will be fleeting.
If you STILL want to, get something highly expendable and abundant, I.e. an Anole.Even though it's not big 0_o

Just my .02

Isnt this the reason we get pets in the first place, or decide to take on a hobby, of course given that youve done your research I see no problem with having an urge to keep something. I just got the urge to get some Blackheaded monitors does that not make me serious?

You, from what you give off, know more than a bit about reptile care.So YOU do not apply.
That's damn near an impulse buy for something that requires some care.
I really didn't think you would have nurtured a potential impulse buy like that.

Well he/she (original poster) is making an effort by asking around to see if they can find a reptile that will suit his/her area of space etc.... theyre making an effort to ask first then buy later, rather than the opposite. So I think this individual is making the right decision by getting advice from us here before they go out and make a buy they will regret.

I hope the bug bites him/her and he/she gets into it!

Ditto. I think its great they're asking questions NOW instead of coming on here a week later, saying "I got a nile monitor. How do I take care of it and how big do they get??"

By sudden urge i (he) actualy meant i have been looking into it for around 2 months originaly i was just going to do a small viv but i find it is similar with fish and the more desireable ones tend to be bigger i was looking into getting a group of mediteranian tortoises or big lizard, i know someone with some sort of iguana(i cant remember which) and it lives outside about a third of the year and is realy active but it goes in a heated shed during winter.

Argentine black and white tegus, red tegus and lacertas are the way to go in a climate as yours(that is if you dont want a really big electric bill) and if you want to be able to keep them outdoors:D

A iguana:confused: in England? Sorry but unless your friend has been realy lucky or has some sort of green house I can think of a single iguana species that is able to stay outside most of the year in that country. Igs are by the most part tropical (exceptions are chuckwallas and desert igs to some estent) and they need at least 80 degrees farn in order to digest food. But clear that, Im curious:popcorn:
