big splash---monster feeding time!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think Pacu grows as much as 1 inche a month. So in a 75 gallon they would last me maybe one year. In 2 year they would have outgrow a 120 gallon. They will eventualy need a 250 gallon or more.

So if i want a Pacu i must be able to upgrape in a year, right ?

i do not know the exact rate of growth..but it is on the faster side.. and yes you would need to upgrade in about a year... but what happens if you can't in a year.. it would be better to upgrade first, then get the pacu... :grinno:

I had 2 pacus named Hack & Slash. They were pretty cool fish and very personalbe for a characin. But they grow so fast! I got them when I didn't know any better at about 2 inches each. They grew like a foot in a year so I put them in my one small pond for the summer. When the fall came around I caught them and gave them to the LFS because no one would buy them from me. You need a lot of tank for these fish!

Lots of people can say oscars are worthless. I think so myself too but I wont since it's your fish and your pet.

that is absolutely true... and LFS stores do not reveal much info about them ...so you are not the only one who bought them with no clue about the size they would become.. i hear about it over and over.. you definitly should have the house before you buy the fish.. because it seems like it is overnight and you will be looking at this platter size fish.. wondering how did this happen.. they are sooooooooo sweet it is a very hard situation to go through..when you have to give them up knowing they only have a very slight chance of finding the right home.. :(

It ticks me off that pet stores like Petsmart say they max out at like 16 inches or something. I heard a girl working there tell someone you could keep one in a 29 gallon! I had to interup this purchase with my 2 cents.

There really should be some laws to protect fish.. but there aren't any so they get away with alot.. at least this forum and others like it are speaking out and helping people to be aware!!:D
