big tank build need advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well like I said I was going to use the 4 longest sheets of glass from these two 55's (gonna need to use bigger glass obviously now) and have three sheets in the front for viewing and one on the side leaving the back solid and one side solid (I'm planning to run plumbing for the filtration out the solid side)

If i would build something like that i would use just one big sheet one one side and a smaller pane on the other side.

I want it to be big enough to have things like gar and a rtc when they hit full size

Well the you need to go bigger have you seen a fullgrown rtc? They are massive as hell. Search youtube after steinar viken. His fullglass tank holds 20000L of water and is huge. He hase some massive rtcs in that tank and they are not full grown yet

Oh I know I'm gonna use the glass outta two 125s for this build it will end up being about 6ft wide and about 18-20ft long
That sounds like 2500 to 5000 gallons depending on height....very very ambitious. I would be interested to see the stand and plumbing plans.....Hope you have 20K lying around for the project and have some skills!! A large enough window will be expensive.....and heavy. I am not sure glass from a 100 gallon is gonna cut it.....2-3" acrylic would be ideal and cost 5-6K for the window alone!!

alderfers glass might be able to help you get some glass, that one panel will cost you several thousand dollars (if you can even get a 20 foot pane of glass) and moving it will be a huge pain, mind you the silicone, stand, and other stuff will cost you several more thousand dollars, might want to make a concrete tank with concrete, rebar, and cinder blocks, just be careful of the concrete and cinder blocks leaching into the water
