Big Tanks = Boring Tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Big tanks=at least 450 gallons and up. Combinations of fish is endless and never gets boring. It all depends what you put in your tank, if you put in boring cheap fish then you will have a boring tank. Starting spending over $1000 per fish on rare and more exotic fish and watch how much fun you will have admiring your collection. Trying doing stingrays and you will be hooked.

/\dis-agree, anything over 100g is a big tank to any normal person, anything over 180 is owned by people who are obsessed, over 220 is excessive imo...

you can have just as much fun with very small tanks and stocking them right, i find big tanks with no decor very boring, a 750 with 4 2k gold arowana's swimming in circles! no thanks, rather a biotope lone black arowana with plants growing out of the water and space for it jump and eat locusts of the leaves that would be a worth wild big tank imo!-) i like the idea of a planted lone red wolf fish tank myself, i have thought of selling my big tank aswell. sometimes a lone oscar in a 150 is the most personable and pet like fish set up you could have... really big tanks are for show off's anyway lol!-)

i have been through what the op is saying and pushed through... i turned towards catfish myself and started learning about that side of the hobbie after previously being all cichlid.

Then you better sell your 300 gallon as it's too excessive and just buy a 100 gallon tank.
LOL, my smallest growout tank is 150 gallons! You are in the thinking minority on a site called MONSTER FISH KEEPERS!!!

But not all huge tanks with expensive fish are bare, I've seen some badash scaping with 750 gallons, and bare 5 gallons. And maybe big tanks are for obsessive or excessive, but that's why we're on this site lol, because we're obsessed. But small or big tank, doesn't equate obsession but preference of fish. With most fish the common person finds attractive does need tanks over 220 lol; ie pacu, arowana, pbass, datnoids, koi, and ATF. It's like cars really, you can have a decked out common car, you can have a stock expensive car, or a stock classic car, or decked out expensive car. Just like people may like having a chihuahua and dressing it up, or a Great Dane with a big open yard. We must face it though, we're all obsessive, that's why we're on a forum to talk about fish lol.

Saying the higher the price of the fish the more fun the fishkeeping is kind of a crazy, elitist notion. It's about what you like, not how much you spend. That's moving into the "fish are possessions and prizes, not pets" category. So no, I'm not going to start purchasing expensive fish just for the sake of expensive fish, that wouldn't change anything for me.

Humm not sure what to think about my 600 and 400 at the moment then. ohh I love them and need bigger soon.

Anyone else find that once they upgraded to monster aquaria and fish that the hobby stalemated a bit for them? I remember having a lot more fun with my 50 gallons than I do with my tanks that are hundreds of gallons. What's going on here?? Am I just a weirdo?

no. u r a weirdo, sir.
