If you plan on going that ridiculously far with it you should plan on paying a lawyer a lot of money to go that far with it too.

Don't get greedy, I would take them to small claims court and try to recoup the cost of the turtles as well as time spent trying to recapture them. That's it.

I know it sucks that it happened - and what they did is illegal, but that doesn't mean you deserve 100,000 for some one chucking your turtles.

im serious in my town some guys golden retriever killed some guys cat and that guy put a poisoned steak out and killed the dog 10 million dollars for some ***** (correct usage)

That doesn't mean it's the right thing to do...

A guy got drunk in New York - tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a subway train, lost his legs. Then turned around and sue'd the city for 11 million and won...

I suppose even a person's integrity has a price.

Screw that, I say he should hit the mother ****ers with whatever legal devices are at his disposal. What they did was illegal, immoral, environmentally and emotionally damaging, cruel to the animals, and very time consuming to fight, and you're suggesting that he try to get around $200 in damages for it? **** NO. They stole his exotic pets and essentially killed them (depending on where he lives and what kind of turtles they were), while simultaneously potentially destroying part of an ecosystem.
The landlord should be reported to the fish and wildlife service, and the original poster should seek some serious damages.

Thats illegal, You can make some good money off that to.
Thats animal cruelty to a point. NO ONE even if they own your room can just take your animals. Unless its endangered and protected of course.
When highering a lawyer You can Sure for Money + They have to pay your attorney fees.

Some guy Got his house raided awhile back for Pot. thinking he was growing it. But he just had a huge reptile collection He got some money there
For got where i read it.

No Judge will buy that a Turtle(s) were "constant and unwavering companions" A Dog, yes! or a Cat maybe, even a Bird but not Turtles. But let's assume for this thread they may. You gonna walk into court represented by whom?, yourselve in real court, Civil Court - not small claims! Your suing for $100,000.00 you think the landlord going to just stroll into court without a lawyer facing a $100,000 suit. I think not!
You attending Law School?, then you know your client is a FOOL to be representing himself. A real Lawyer will rip you a new one in court.

So I hope your planning on paying up front for an Attorney for this type of non (PI) personal injury, non (MMP) Medical Malpractice case. Somewhere around the hourly rate of $300 per hour, say a retainer of $9,000 to $12,000 to cover the first fourty hours, before he/she can even get the case on the courts calendar to start the hearing process.

Then more cash on top of that to carry you through the to the end of trial if it even goes that far. Remember the lawyer will charge you for all adjournments and calendar cancellations, certified letters, notices, phone calls, reschedualing, discovery, researching case studies etc etc. Let's say it cost you $20,000 out of pocket, so what the hell you gonna do when a judge says ok mr./ms. so and so I'll award you $10,000, $15,000 or maybe even $500, but were here in the land of make believe let's say the judge awards you $35,000~$40,000 you think that yor landlord won't appeal this? Think again!

What? When was this? You do know that Attornies will say anything and print anything just to get attention. How much did this person really get after appeals, settlement offers etc, etc., Highly unlikely anyone would pay anyone else that they could prove was trying to kill themselves any money.

Again make good and sure you know that your Turtles aren't protected in FL, just because you bought them say in GA doesn't mean they'e legal in FL. Though looking around FL one would think any type of animal is legal.

This is 100% Wrong I know of NO Attorney in a matter such as this that would be willing do the work first and then hope to get paid later by you or anyone else!!! Once you win your case, and by winning I mean you get all that you asked for or more, them you will recoup what you laid out. The only time Attornies wait to get paid for there work is in (PI) Personal Injury cases and (MMP) Medical Malpractice cases where the payment come directly to them in your name in most cases but still it goes to them. Then they call you in and you both go to the bank and cash the check(s) they take what is there's and what you have outing in liens & judgements and then the rest goes to you, end of story - oops I forgot there out-of-pocket expensives generally another 10%, End of Story.

Question do we even know what type of Turts we're talking about here? If there just some run of the mill FL State Turts, then there goes the Fish & Wildlife claims. The dredged enviromental concerns of 2 to 4 non native Turtles on the State of FL and it's enviroment, especially with subadult Turtles and all the UFO from the sky that swoop down out of know ware and grab up everything from fish, frogs, turtles, snakes and other birds not to forget the occaisonal gator or croc that wouldn't mind a turtle snack.

Did I read something about a fenced in area where the Turtles may have been dumped near by the apartment complex? Because if the Turtle where dumped in a fenced in pond on the land owners property, that may very well kill your enviromental destruction with non native spieces theory.
